GENERAL MANAGER – MINE
Purpose of the position:
To provide strategic and operational leadership and management to meet the short-, medium- and long term goals, objectives and targets of the operation, the aim of securing sustainable growth, profit and a positive return for all stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
· To ensure that the short-, medium- and long term operational targets are aligned with strategies;
· Seek and assess growth opportunities that compliment and add value to the operation;
· Support the Management team to promote and establish a zero harm culture for the operation through ensuring that compliance is maintained by monitoring and upholding environmental, safety and security regulations and procedures;
· Facilitate the ongoing growth and development of the Management Team by ensuring appropriate short-, medium- and long term professional development strategies are developed and implemented;
· Collaborate with site Department Managers to create and effectively communicate a clear vision, goals and objectives for the operations and performance measure on a quarterly basis;
· Ensure that critical risks are captured on a site risk register with quarterly review and continual adoption of risk reduction strategies;
· Act as the Company’s key representative in dealing with both local communities and all levels of government;
· Maintain regular, consistent reporting to senior management and the corporate office.
Key requirements:
· Hold a tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or Metallurgy;
· Have extensive experience in open pit mining environments;
· Over 10 years mining experience; open pit mine engineering or process experience;
· An excellent safety track record;
· Have a proven track record in senior management and leadership roles in the mining industry;
· Possess sound financial and business acumen and the ability to influence the main cost drivers for the operation;
· Have the ability to envision the future of the property with strong business planning capabilities;
· Demonstrate first-rate communication skills and an ability to attract, retain and develop talented staff.
