Chief Mine Engineer (West Africa)

My client is looking for a Chief Mine Engineer to be responsible for the strategic long and short term planning and mine design. The incumbent is required to effectively manage the mining engineers team ensuring quality delivery of plans and schedules in a timely manner in line with monthly plans and budgets

Duties:

Ensure open pit optimisation and designs are completed to company standards and requirements
Long, medium and short planning to meet corporate objectives
Technical advisor to mine manager
Waste dump design and location for reduced load and haul costs while not sterilising potential economic areas
Assist with preparation of annual budget and life of mine plan
Establish short and medium term procedures planning procedures
Review on a regular basis the life of mine defining strategies to ensure that the stated corporate objectives are achieved
Supervise the mining engineers in compilation of production data and reporting
Coordinate and incorporate inputs from various sections e.g. geology, geotechnical engineering, mien operations survey, into the production schedules and designs
Demonstrate high level of communication with all departments and commitment to continuously improving current procedures
Manage the succession planning of engineers within the team to ensure the development of national employees
To assume positions of increasing accountability
Be pro active in all aspects of operation safety, efficient utilisation of resources, continuous improvement initiatives and encourage team work across the department
Continuous improvement initiatives for cost reduction and improved ounce profiles

Requirements:

Degree in mining engineering
Minimum 10years relevant experience in the mining industry in open pit operations
Experience in the use of mining software packages
Experiences in open-pit optimization, pit designing and production scheduling
Good interpersonal and leadership skills
Emotional intelligence
Adequately experienced to maintain credibility with senior operations management, joint venture partners and government officials
Adequately matured as a person with interpersonal skills to influence people and the business
Ability to speak French would be an advantage
