My client is looking to expand their engineering department in West Africa and is looking for a mining engineer to join their team

Requirements

qualified mining engineer
minimum five year’s post-graduation experience.
Vulcan experience is preferred but is not necessary.
The salary range would be US$80,000 to US$90,000 pa gross.
The roster is eight weeks on; four weeks off with traveling counted as work time.
Open pit gold experience would be beneficial

Responsibilities

Mine Planning and Scheduling:

Responsible for mine planning and scheduling on site using software such as spreadsheets, iGantt etc to ensure practical schedules are produced for production, budgeting and forecasting purposes.This includes short (2 weeks), medium (monthly) and long term (yearly and life of mine) planning and scheduling.

Drill & Blast:

Responsible for drill and blast designs with the aim to balance the competing needs between the following: Fragmentation, Powder Factor (i.e. cost), Heave and movement of material (i.e. minimising ore dilution), Working with production personnel, explosive’s contractor and geologists to ensure the above bullet point is achieved.

Production Reporting:

o Responsible to ensure daily production across all the mining activities is captured and reported in a timely manner. This also includes validating and checking data to ensure its integrity.

o Responsible in presenting data for the weekly, monthly and yearly reports.

o Assist in preparing data for generation of budgets.

Mine Design

o The use of mining software (i.e. Vulcan) to carry out the following as required: Pit Designs, Waste Dump Designs, Haul Road Designs, Other Infrastructure Designs (eg Dams etc)

Safety and Environment

o Pro-active in abiding by SGO’s safety and environmental policies and reporting any safety or environmental issues.

Teamwork

o To work as part of a team with fellow Mining Engineers, Geologists, Surveyors and Production personnel to ensure production target/budgets are achieved.

o To mentor and assist Junior Mining Engineers to increase their skills and mining knowledge.
