HEALTH MANAGER – MEDICAL
West Africa
Objective
Medical management of the Health Department.
Clinical activities
· Render a consultancy service to the National Doctors.
· Stabilize critically ill and injured patients.
· Co-ordinate medical evacuations.
Occupational Health and Hygiene
· Manage a comprehensive programme in line with OHSAS 18001 requirements.
Managerial functions
· Staff management
· Monitor the clinical functions within the department and recommend staffing changes within the set staffing norms.
· Determine work schedules so that the department is adequately staffed taking into account working hours, skills mix, leaves etc.
· Propose staffing levels for budget purposes.
· Leadership and control
· Orientate new staff to the department when required.
· Set departmental standards and monitor performance against company standards.
· Investigate and adjudicate staff deviations from company rules and regulations or performance standards.
· Investigate or adjudicate staff grievances.
· Assess staff members training needs.
· Provide training in the form of on-the-job training.
· Responsible for the control of staff related matters e.g. overtime.
· Ensure that staff members are informed regarding matters that impact upon them.
Budget management
· Propose an annual budget for the medical management of the department.
Stock and equipment management
Implementation of quality control programmes and developing codes of practices including treatment protocols
Disaster planning
Managing industrial relations
Environmental management
§ Manage an environmental programme in line with ISO 14001 requirements.
Administration
· Perform all the administration associated with the abovementioned functions.
Requirements
· Medical degree MBCh
· Trauma qualification
· ACLS and PALS
· Occupational health qualification
· Diploma in tropical medicine
· Qualification in Health Management
· Qualification in community and environmental health
Experience
· 10 Years experience as a Medical Doctor within the mining environment
· Extensive trauma experience
· 5 Years experience in the management of Tropical Diseases
· Previous experience in the implementation and management of HIV awareness programmes
· Previous experience in the implementation of 18001 and 14001 management systems
· Previous experience working in a remote, multi-cultural and ethnically diversified environment
