Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the Process and Control Superintendent will be responsible for managing and delivering effective technical support to the entire plant operations in the areas of process optimisation and control, process improvements and process metallurgical services.
Main responsibilities include:
• Provide effective leadership, management and direction for process and control personnel to continually optimize the process conditions and controls strategies
• Responsible for overall plant metallurgical accounting. Ensure that there is a rigorous, cost effective method/software for reconciling daily, weekly and month-end metallurgical balance
• Ensure that all site and government safety, health and environmental procedures and standards are followed by plant personnel, and maintain close collaboration with the HSE department to ensure all workers are trained in safety and environment matters
• Responsible for Quality Management System. Including ensuring that there are sufficient resources to establish and maintain the QMS
• Provide supervision and mentorship, leading to the growth and development of department employees.
• Provide input and assistance to the Technical Services Manager in preparing business plans, budgets, and services to support delivery of the required results in production volumes, unit costs, and product quality to meet the budgeting and planning process objectives.
• Identification, determination of justification and development of scope of work for process and control medium-to-long term projects to improve process safety, reduce environmental impact, reduce quality variation and reduce specific consumptions
• Ensure efficient plant operations by directing and supervising teams to identify and correct deficiencies, continuously seek and promote opportunities for operational improvements, cost reduction and technical innovation to maintain business profitability. Provide effective communication both within and outside the department to ensure that all those affected have the pertinent information to perform their jobs effectively.
• Supervise and evaluates work performed by subordinates to ensure adherence to sound scientific and economic principles
• Provide support to an interdisciplinary team to achieve registration of metal products in Europe under the REACH program and on the LME.
• Provide assistance in developing and maintaining records and standards for potential registration under ISO 9001.
Main requirements & Qualifications include:
• A masters or PhD degree in either chemical or metallurgical engineering, chemistry or metallurgy with at least 15 years of supervisory experience in process and control in a chemical or metallurgical plant.
• Several years experience in process development and optimization in a large multi-facility process plant employing high pressure technology
• Strong background in supervision of technical personnel, process improvement and optimization, quality control, budgets and cost control and administration
• Strong communication skills and a proven record of mentoring and development of personnel is essential
• Fluency in English and French will be a strong asset
• Experience with process development, and commissioning of new equipment circuits and plants would be an asset
• Experience in operations in developing countries an asset
