Position Profile
Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, the position is responsible for providing technical support in the areas of both extractive metallurgy and process chemistry to optimise the production of nickel and cobalt while achieving exceptional safety and environmental performance.
• Identify, initiate, and implement process improvements that will contribute to the cost effectiveness, stability, process robustness and reliability of the Plant operations.
• Primary responsibility of gathering data to prepare the plant monthly metallurgical balance and reports
• Analyse equipment and chemical processes, and develop solutions or alternative processes for de-bottlenecking plant circuits in a team environment.
• Interpretation of laboratory, pilot test or large scale testing results.
• Responsible for supporting the Senior Metallurgist in determining metallurgical accounting for the feed material and in process inventories.
• Responsible for preparation of monthly metallurgical reports for the plant as well as overall mass balance or volumetric balance.
• Preparation of economic evaluations and optimisations with the Senior Metallurgist.
• Provide technical reports to various levels of management on issues related to extractive metallurgy and metal recoveries.
• Ensures that that all documentation conforms to ISO 9001 (and potential basis for ISO 14001) requirements for the group.
• Accountable to provide effective technical support to the operating units in the area of process metallurgy.
• Review day to day plant operation to ensure product quality
• Assist the Process Development Team in coordinating and supervising laboratory experimental development programs
Qualifications :
• Engineering degree (Diploma, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) in Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
• Have at least 5 years of experience to a metallurgical complex or refinery operation or chemical and experience in extractive metallurgy
• Appropriate technical qualifications and experience as describe above
• Mobility, fitness and ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplined team
• Track record of improving and de-bottlenecking process a definite asset
• Technical background in process engineering
• Fluent in French and English is a definite asset
• Experience in operations in developing countries an asset
• Leadership and communication skills with a focus on continuous improvement
• Experience in commissioning and plant start-up
