Safety Manager
My client in Central Africa is looking for a highly motivated professional to help bring the company’s developing mine site up to world class health and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage the development of safety management standards, systems and tools in line with industry best practice
- Liaise on safety issues with Government Agencies and Departments and insure the company meets or exceeds government legislation.
- Develop and implement safety systems that will create a safety culture within management that will be accepted by the workforce.
- Focus on development of OH&S Policy and Procedures, with immediate implementation and completion of related site training and awareness needs.
- Be the site safety focal point for reporting requirements - ensure appropriate reporting and definitions are introduced. Ensure all occupational health issues are proactively managed.
- Provision of health assessments for pre-placement and assessments for the existing workforce.
- Conduct hazard identification training
- First response and emergency response development and training
Requirements
- Ten years of experience in health and safety, five of which should be in the mining industry.
- Experience in emergency planning
- EMT level training would be an asset
- Fluency in French and/or Swahili
- Experience working in Africa is essential
- Competency/certification on First-Aid protocols & procedures
- Good reporting skills and familiarized with industry standard Occupational Health & Safety statistical software packages.
- Experience in organizing, implementing and managing multi-level Occupational Health & Safety committees.
- Good leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to improve the skill level of national staff
Contract:
- This would be an expat contract
- US dollar net salary plus benefits
- Fly in fly out rotation 9/3, single status
- 15 additional days leave over Christmas period
