Legal Counsel- West Africa

Our client is currently seeking a lawyer for their operations in West Africa. The purpose of the role is to provide legal counsel in one or more legal specialty areas to the company's organizational units
Responsibilities:
- Oversee, Review, prepare, and approve contracts involving leases, licenses, purchases, sales, insurance and employment
- Administer and oversee all matters pending at the courts of law, giving guidance to HR on Workers Union related matters and oversee the proceedings of court cases and draft legal opinions for such cases
- Assist the company in compliance issues; always ensuring the company and its entities are aware of the company’s business code of conduct and perform it to the satisfaction of the corporate regulations and laws governing the country
- Provide effective on job training and coaching to ensure less experienced staff gain new skills and knowledge and achieve their maximum potential
- Continually review every aspect of the areas’ activities to ensure that opportunities to add value and enhance shareholder wealth are identified and implemented
Requirements:
- Degree in law
- 15 years’ experience in the private sector (preferably mining)
- Industrial Relations experience and knowledge of West African Laws is highly desirable
- Sound knowledge of mining safety regulations and best practice
- Knowledge of West African customs and legal process
