Specific Accountabilities
• Ensure Supervisors and their operations personnel receive the correct coaching and mentoring to safely and efficiently operate the plant.
• Ensure that safety and environmental procedures and standards are followed by all plant personnel.
• Ensure Standard Operating Procedures, Isolation Lists are updated as and when required using the approved processes.
• Ensure all tasks performed within the PAL area are done so in conjunction with an Standard Operating Procedure
• Ensure the Permit To Work system is adhered to at all times.
• Assist in the coordination of Supervisors coaching, training and development of operations staff.
• Conduct and ensure annual assessments are carried out of all operations personnel in a timely manner.
• Ensure Supervisors are performing the correct on the job training and cross skilling of their operations personnel as set by the Trainer/Advisers.
• Provide direction and leadership to the Shift Supervisors and Lead Operators to ensure they meet the Safety, Production and Product Quality Targets set by the Plant Management team.
• Administer the area operator progression system as directed by Trainer/Advisors. Participate in recommendations for the selection and training of capable local national personnel for supervisory and management positions within the Department.
• Assist technical and engineering staff in programs for ongoing improvement of plant performance and equipment reliability and cost reduction.
• Ensure trainee operating personnel are utilized and receiving correct on the job training and being trained correctly in safe and efficient operating practices.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
A secondary education with at least 10 years of operating and supervision experience in a chemical or metallurgical plant. The incumbent must have strong communication skills and a proven record of coaching and mentoring of personnel.
PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Several years experience in plant operations and operations supervision of a large multi-facility process plant employing high pressure technology. High pressure acid leach experience in laterite Nickel is preferred but not essential. The incumbent must have a strong background in supervision, maintenance planning, troubleshooting and administration.

• Mobility, fitness and ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplined team
• Demonstrated track record of training and developing local nationals to assume positions of greater responsibility in the organization
• Solid communication skills working with all levels of the operations team.
• Excellent written skills with previous experience writing procedures and practices.
• A diverse operational background with a strong knowledge on the operation of various types of equipment and processes.
• A strong understanding of Environment, Health and Safety systems and practices.
• Experienced in or capable of learning the plant training and tracking system.
• Fluent in English and French is desirable
• Prior experience in the operation and maintenance of a similar plant or process would be an asset
• Experience with commissioning of new equipment circuits and plants is desirable
