2750401NDS Mine General Foreman
The position will supervise all mining operations and production-related activities.
Inherent in the job description is the responsibility to ensure the safety and environmental stewardship of the mine operations department
There are three mine supervisors, two drill & blast supervisors and two heavy equipment trainers reporting to this position.
The primary responsibilities for the position include:
o Ore & waste extraction and haulage;
o Drilling and blasting;
o Management of personnel;
o Monitor all paperwork and ensure the relevance, necessity and accuracy of the data being collected
o Budget preparation/ implementation.
This position works closely with the following:
o Maintenance Superintendent regarding equipment availability,
o Engineering to coordinate planning, mine design and equipment requirements.
Responsibilities
• Mining
o Participate in short and medium term mine planning and scheduling process to confirm the schedule requirements and commit to achieving the agreed schedule.
o Organise and supervise the mining resources and activities to meet the agreed schedule.
o Ensure appropriate levels of supervision for all mine operations as a prime focus including shift start-up, locating and controlling personnel and machinery.
o Ensure monitoring and maintenance of haul routes to ensure an efficient operation.
o Ensure the monitoring and corrective action taken of pit floor standards and waste dump levels.
o Ensure monitoring of pit wall angles and batter cleaning.
o Ensure mining is carried out in accordance with the mining short-term schedule.
o Ensure all aspects of the operation are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with statutory obligations.
o Ensure the drill & blast operations are completed safely and as scheduled.
o Ensure mining activities take the grade control drilling program into account.
o Monitor pit dewatering and ensure corrective action taken as necessary.
o Keep necessary records of all aspects of the operation including tonnes moved, equipment hours, shift reports, check sheets etc.
o Ensure auditing and monitoring of the Mine Contractors performance – check and confirm activity and hours.
o Ensure statutory responsibilities for Pit operations (including conduct of regular inspections etc)
o Any other duties as required by the Mining Manager commensurate with the employee’s skills, competence and training.
• Cost
o Carries out duties of managing Mine Production staff, contractors and equipment in the most cost effective manner possible to deliver required tonnes and grade.
o Set budgets for the Production department, monitor and controls costs within agreed limits.
• Planning
o Plans work primarily on a weekly, monthly and quarterly time-frame to respond to variations in operational conditions and requirements (e.g., short term schedule changes, introduction of new ore from other sources)
• Team Management
o Develop and encourage a team approach with shared objectives within the mining production operating team, maintenance, survey and geology and major contractors.
o Review and communicate both individual and team performance in daily, weekly, monthly team meetings.
• Policy, Procedure and Process Development
o Sets specific policy and procedures for the Mining Production Process.
o Recommends improvements to the process that my lead to safer, more productive operation with better recovery.
• Reports, Procedure and Process Development
o Carries out activities for monitoring of Mining production process measures and log sheets, reporting to track process performance and incidents
o Develops and implements specific measures for various mining production activities relating to drill and blast, load, haul and dump performance.
• Innovation and Improvement
o Identifies, investigates and implements improvements to the operating performance of the Mining Process, particularly those areas which are directly under mining production control, e.g. Load and Haul.
Requirements
• The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years experience in a hard rock open pit mining environment, in progressively responsible positions.
• Previous experience as a General Foreman or equivalent position highly desirable;
• This position demands excellent analytical, management, organisation, communication and problem solving skills.
• The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines, work with minimum supervision, and have a working knowledge of surface mine production operations
• Operating surface mining equipment or heavy construction equipment experience highly desirable;
• Must be able to work in a team environment and effectively communicate and interact with employees;
• Basic working knowledge of a computer and spreadsheet programs is desired;
• Ability to work in a remote location;
• Ability to work with the local nationals
Contractual hours and roster
• Work from 0500 to 1700, or as required
Roster Expatriates: 8 weeks (56 days) on site 4 week (28 days) off site
