My client is looking for a Mine Manager to manage their multi-billion dollar mining project in Canada
This position is responsible for ensuring the effective construction and operational readiness of the Mine Department and ensuring that this is done on budget, on schedule and achieves technical scope.
Responsibilities:
• Provide technical/operational input into project engineering plans to ensure that the operational scope is met
• Develop and implement the strategies and operating plans for the plant, that take into account targets and related actions for improvement in accident prevention, environmental performance, production, output quality, production costs, and capital expenditures.
• Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders including the Purchasing, Human Resources, and Financial groups to ensure that the business plan is profitable and deliverable.
• Manage a mix of processes, technology, funds, and people to balance 1-year result requirements with 1 to 5 year improvement milestones.
• Analyse trends in safety, environment, production and quality performance, as well as the consumption of resources, and implement actions to address negative variances, or to take advantage of opportunities as they arise.
• Monitor the performance of those doing the work, and take action to improve the capability of the team to meet future needs through the development or selection of personnel.
• Monitor production performance to ensure that processes are in place both to maintain department and equipment to sustain/build productive capability, and to meet the targets outlined in the Business Plan.
• Build the capability for continuous improvement while balancing the allocation of resources to optimize the treatment of all inputs from the ‘supplier’ and meet quantity and quality output requirements for the internal and/or external ‘customer’.
• Contribute to the LOMs plans by contributing to the 5 year plan as it relates to cost reduction, production value.
• Prepare reports on Mineral Resource and Mineral Reserves for corporate group
• Interface with key individuals internal and external to the company on various issues. This may include contractors, communities, government, aboriginal groups, etc...
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Geology.
• Professional Engineer registered in Nunavut (or with the capability to register).
• 15 years of open pit mining experience with at least 5 years in a supervisory/management role.
• Iron ore experience preferable
• Experience working in arctic climates advantageous
• Experience working with aboriginal people, working in remote mining camps and developing individuals whose initial mining knowledge/skills are low is beneficial.
This would be a residential contract in Canada
Originally office based in Toronto with regular travel to site
