Our client is a leading online retailer with a customer base stretching across Africa. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for the following:
- Developing and executing the company's category management strategy
- Ensuring turnover and profitability are maximised
- Managing and developing a team of category managers
- Developing and executing the sourcing and merchandising plan
- Structuring and managing category margin drivers
- Development of pricing strategies
- Ensuring a culture of innovation
- Working closely with the brand strategy and marketing team
- Developing a thorough knowledge of the industry, and customer insights
- Producing actionable, insightful recommendations to improve onsite merchandising
The successful applicant will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- A tertiary qualification, with a postgraduate degree preferred
- At least 10 years' experience in category management or retail buying, with solid online exposure
- Experience in business strategy development, including annual operating plans and three-year strategic plans
- Proficiency in managing product lifecyles and pricing strategies
- An understanding of the processes and techniques involved in product testing
- Experience of leading new product introductions
- Sound knowledge of both traditional and online retail environments, as well as international best practice and international expansion
- Well networked in the retail industry
- The ability to manage and motivate a team, both locally and internationally
- Strong business acumen and "merchant thinking"
- The ability to build strong supplier relationships
