Job Description:

The Assistant Plantation Manager is responsible for supporting the Plantation Manager in overseeing day-to-day plantation operations, ensuring optimal productivity, and managing workforce activities. The role involves coordinating agricultural processes, monitoring crop health, managing resources, and ensuring that the plantation meets production targets while adhering to quality standards and safety protocols. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in plantation management, be familiar with agricultural practices, and possess strong leadership skills

Responsibilities:

  • Operational Management:
    • Assist the Plantation Manager in planning and supervising daily field operations, including planting, tapping, fertilizing, and pest control.
    • Ensure all agricultural activities are carried out efficiently and in alignment with company goals and sustainability practices.
    • Monitor the production and ensure that best practices are optimized to enhance yield and quality.
  • Resource and Workforce Management:
    • Manage a team of plantation workers by assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing guidance.
    • Ensure the efficient use of resources Chemical, fertilizers, equipment, machinery and tools.
    • Assist in recruitment, training, and development of the workforce to ensure the required skill levels are met for plantation operations.
  • Production Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Track plantation production metrics, monitor crop yields, and report any issues or challenges to the Plantation Manager.
    • Maintain accurate records of field activities, input usage, and workers performance.
    • Assist in preparing and presenting regular reports on productivity, crop productions, and resource allocation.
  • Maintenance and Equipment Management:
    • Oversee the maintenance of plantation machinery, equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working condition.
    • Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure timely repairs and servicing of agricultural equipment to prevent downtime.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
    • Ensure that all plantation activities comply with health and safety regulations, and that workers use proper protective equipment.
    • Promote sustainable farming practices and ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
    • Conduct safety audits and address any potential risks in the plantation.
  • Financial Oversight:
    • Assist in budgeting and controlling operational costs, including workers, materials, and equipment expenses.
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising productivity or quality.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Assist in implementing innovative techniques, new tools, and technologies to improve plantation productivity and efficiency.
    • Work closely with the Plantation Manager to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to increase yields and reduce wastage.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in plantation or agricultural management, with proven knowledge of crop management and plantation best practices.
  • Knowledge of pest control and sustainable plantation best practices.
  • Familiarity with plantation machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays, depending on crop production.
