Côte d’Ivoire / Ivory Coast

Agrarian production is a major influence in Côte d’Ivoire’s steadily growing economy. The country is the largest cocoa producer and the third biggest coffee producer in the world, and these crops are the backbone of the economy. Palm oil is also a large driver of Côte d’Ivoire’s economy.

Côte d’Ivoire, also known as Ivory Coast, is said to be a friendly country, with good cuisine, a lively community and a vibrant culture. Abidjan is an exciting city There are multiple private and public schools, including French-speaking and English schools. It is also said to be a land of opportunity for expats, with many jobs available.

There are some disclaimers for those moving to Côte d’Ivoire. The first is that security is an issue due mainly to the ongoing conflict in the country, and unexploded munitions and landmines are a problem as well as high rates of violent crime. Many expatriates based in Abidjan choose to live in Zone 4 or Marcory, which are safer areas. Cocody is also a popular neighbourhood. The second disclaimer is that Côte d’Ivoire has an underdeveloped healthcare system. There is only a small number of facilities in the country, and residents with certain health problems may even have to travel across the border to find specialist facilities that can provide the needed treatment. However, the country is working to improve healthcare quality and access.

While those who choose to live in Côte d’Ivoire may experience some challenges, there are certainly positives to the country. Aside from the lively, friendly atmosphere, it is a beautiful country with myriad attractions and much to explore, from historical sites to natural wonders such as biodiverse rainforests and beautiful beaches. The city of Abidjan is exciting and modern, and the local 'Afro Chic' fashion trend is world-famous.
