Area Project Manager - Smelter (Mining / Gas Handling / Acid Production / Pr.Eng) – Sandton, South Africa

 

Job Description:

The Area Project Manager is responsible for the overall management and execution of the company smelter project off-gas and acid making systems which includes, dry and wet gas cleaning, gas cooling, acid making, acid storage, flue gas de-sulphurisation and ollgas handling systems for all other processes in the smelter complex.    

 

Responsibilities:

• Management
• Overall responsibility for Project area scope, quality, budget and schedule from concept to commissioning and handover.
• Manage procurement process
• Manage all appointed consultants and contractors
• Design Reviews
• Specialist review of designs and technical specifications of the project area scope.
• Willingness to travel extensively regionally and internationally on short notice for extensive periods
• Willingness to spend extended periods on site during construction and commissioning
• Management and coordination of consultants not based in South Africa

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• B.Sc / Ens. in Metallurgy, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
• Ideally Professionally registered engineer (Pr. Eng) and Project Management Professional (PMP)
• 10-15 Years’ specialist technical experience with gas handling and acid production systems – preferably in a smelter environment
• A minimum of 5-10 years project management experience
• Managed indirect budgets of approx. US$ 100 – 300 million
