Category Manager  (Mining/ Contract Spend /  Supply / Sourcing ) – Johannesburg, South Africa

 

Job Description:

Responsible for providing commercial excellence in a span of control role by providing leadership to the team in ensuring Operation’s Supply needs strategically match with the market, takes responsibility for supplier management and development as well as contract administration and engages with the team to track and monitor performance targets of optimal cost of ownership and surety of supply.

 

Responsibilities:

• Accountable for effective sourcing strategies through cross functional data analysis ensuring supply effectiveness and competitiveness
• Monitors expectations, understanding and application of Supply Category Management processes within the team to support compliance with local requirements
• Lead negotiation effort with suppliers and create opportunities for effective relationships while pressing for cost effectiveness and reliable delivery
• Validates that frameworks, policies and practices established for the sub-function are applied.
• Supports Sub-Function with performance and insights on the management of Supply risk and the relevant mitigating actions.
• Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal business leaders to understand business objectives, plans and requirements.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with suppliers to ensure optimum delivery quality and sustained performance in line with business objectives.
• Execute market intelligence and analysis to build robust category and sourcing strategies to drive effective utilization of the supply base to maintain competitive advantage for the Asset.
• Coordinates with operations to ensure category strategies and contract coverage adequately supports maintenance strategies, 2 year budget and execution plans.
• Reviews category strategies and spend to ensure cost effectiveness, optimal contract portfolio and process automation.
• Develops the local procurement plan for span of control with collaboration from operations and ED / SD sub-function
• Provides guidance to the Category Manager and company leadership on category risk management and relevant mitigating actions
• Validates application of procedures for issuing and evaluating tenders, reviews contract award recommendation and approval
• Ensure all aspects of contract performance and administration is managed effectively and efficiently
• To drive continuous improvement, best value and quality improvements within the department and cross functionally in challenging existing practices and actively seek ways to achieve better outcomes, contributing to ensure key performance and financial targets are met and corrective actions taken when necessary
• Motivate teams and ensure competency development is achieved through appropriate training development in order for employees to achieve their full potential

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• Bachelor’s Degree in business, Commerce, Finance, Engineering or related disciplines
• 5 years in a commercial or mining & metals environment, Mining / Capital Intensive industry experience preferred.
• Strategic sourcing experience will be preferred with a proven track record in delivering financial savings and meeting operational needs
• Strong experience in developing commercial strategies and leading high value strategic negotiations,
• At least 2 years in leading a team of professionals
• Managed spend as % of total spend of category
• Contract Performance and Compliance
• Business value delivery - External Spend Reduction for category
• Category Management Key Metrics (On-contract spend, PO automation)
• Local Sourcing metrics relative to the operations (where relevant)
