Job Description:
The Chief Operating Officer (Mining) will be responsible for driving business execution across all the mining business operations, managing key deliverables and metrics to ensure best in class cycle time, timely service delivery, sustainable and profitable growth.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and assess level of baseline risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
- Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
- Manage SHEQ compliance within the Function through effective use of the Toolbox
- Utilize the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status
- Manage the Function
- Ensure an enabling climate/culture
- Actively promote and exhibit the practice of the company values
- Manage labour stability by minimizing labour turnover
- Labour complement in line with budget
- Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Function
- Manage performance against set targets and competencies
- Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
- Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
- Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
- Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
- Conduct recruitment interviews
- Ensure customer satisfaction
- Operational Management
- Develop and execute business operational strategy, plans and delivery of key business drivers in support of strategic direction given by the Chief Executive Officer
- Drive cross-functional alignment between the operations and facilitate collaboration at executive level in support of business objectives
- Drive continuous improvement in mining business processes in support of service delivery
- Champion a high-performance culture across the mining operations through regular coaching, mentoring and performance improvement initiatives
- Encourage and build individual and team “commitment and competence” levels across mining operations
- Drive sustainable growth in revenue and profitability as a key operational output
- Ensure improved business efficiencies across the mining value chain
- Ensure alignment to company policies and procedures
- Reporting and Escalations
- Evaluate performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
- Provide accurate statistics and trend analysis of the mining operations
- Provide service delivery, escalations metrics and reporting to the lead team
- Manage Continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence
- Manage the costs across the company’s mining operations
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Mining Engineering Degree
- 10 years’ relevant experience, preferably 5 years’ managerial experience
- MBA would be an advantage
- South African National
