Job Description:
Our client, a leading mining, and metals company is seeking an experienced Chief Surveyor responsible for the completion of all Survey tasks throughout all areas of the site to ensure all spatial activities are either controlled or captured to the acceptable level of accuracy for their mine located in West Africa.
Responsibilities:
- Development and implementation of departmental pre- production system drivers & core activities.
- Establishment of departmental operational readiness systems.
- Develop Survey manpower section with Manager.
- Review the existing surface stockpiles with regards to volume, density, and grades.
- Work with geology and mining to prepare startup mining execution plan.
- Responsible for daily survey work plan and execution.
- Topographic Surveys of Pit sites.
- Set up survey control networks.
- Set out DD & RC positions and survey collars for exploration.
- Monthly stockpile survey and quantification.
- Produce required plans, sections, and contour maps.
- Pit wall stability prism monitoring.
- Set out of dig limits, berms, batters, designs from plans.
- Set out Ore mark-ups.
- Update Mine infrastructure.
- Set out project infrastructure positions for construction.
- Assist Mining Planning team.
- Set out or pick up any geological sampling position or feature.
- Ensure precision survey equipment are kept in good serviceable condition by carrying out regular checks, user permissible adjustments and keeping track of equipment performance for scheduling specialized maintenance.
- Ensure systems are in place and continuously improve these systems to world class industry standards.
- Business Performance Reporting & Analysis in Survey section: Ensure the relevant Business performance KPIs are in place, are aligned to the overall business strategy and are being correctly measured. Analyze cost variance report and note any adverse and favorable variances. Continuously search for improvements to reduce working costs while improving efficiency and effectiveness.
- Prepare and manage annual Survey zero base budget and cash flow forecast through chart of accounts and cost elements.
- Coordinate Survey supply chain with the procurement department.
- Manage performance management and development program as per AO or similar program.
- Lead asset optimization program of responsible areas. Knowledge in RCA, FIP, Kaizen, 3W, SOP compliance, Contractor performance management, processors and enablers.
- Training & development of National workforce as per nationalization program.
- Active input into the Company’s Safety Management Systems. Report all accidents, incidents and identified hazards. Operate to a minimum NOSA safety standard with extensive knowledge of HSE operating procedures.
- Development and management of live risk matrix.
- Promote and adhere to appropriate internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards.
- Consistently maintain a high quality of work across all allocated function.
- Assist in developing and preparing the monthly End of Month reports on material movement and all stockpiles quantified.
- Assist in the preparation of plans and drawings for various regulatory bodies.
- Active participation to the Health & Safety Committee.
- Unsure commitment of self and team to company an industry safety policies and regulations.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Min 10 years’ experience as Chief Surveyor in Open Pit Mining operation.
- Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Survey from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Knowledge of open pit engineering construction work.
- Ability to plan, coordinate and supervise the work of subordinates.
- Driver’s License.
- Experience in Green/brown field’s project development advantages.
- Microsoft office proficiency with advanced Excel skill.
- Must have passed pre - employment medical examination.
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience, including 5 years in open pit mine surveying as Chief Surveyor.
- Proficient in the use of mine design and survey software including E.G. Spectrum Survey Office, Carlson Surveyor + GPS, Trimble Optron or Topcon, Surpac and Civil 3D Autocad.
- Strong communication skills with ability to speak and write English.
- Must possess strong cultural sensitivity and be able to execute work successfully in a different culture.
- Demonstrated record of developing and coaching staff.
- Must be able to demonstrate the values of integrity, respect, and collaboration.
- Demonstrated commitment to ensuring a safe working environment.
- Ability to work as a team with the Mine Engineering and Operations personnel.
