Job Description:
Our client is a leading mining company who require a Commodity Specialist with a strong technical background. Main function is to provide support to Senior Specialist Commercial and Commodity Engineer with regards to execution of commodity strategy. Main challenges that will be faced: Providing commodity management service to multiple business units; Improve in terms of cost-effectiveness, innovation and productivity; Challenging end-users on specifications and application issues and facilitate improvement projects (money teams) with cross-functional resources.
Responsibilities:
- Support implementation of process and system enhancements to improve operations within commodity area
- Act as business improvement process champion for commodity area by liaising with other departments
- Evaluate commodity performance against best practice and actual performance
- Support with observation, measurement and monitoring of commodities on location
- Evaluate new and/or alternate products in conjunction with end users and submit recommendations
- Assist in the implementation of portfolio targets in alignment with legislation and charters (e.g. Mining Charter, Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE), etc.)
- Obtain sign-off of plans for specific commodities within area of responsibility
- Manage internal and external relations including interface with external providers or other functions responsible to ensure business needs are met
- Support on-boarding of new suppliers and manage supplier relationships
- Conduct supplier performance reviews
- Adhere to functional policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, end- to-end processes, tools, templates etc.
- Assist in standardising, simplifying and speeding-up functional processes and eliminating duplication/ bureaucracy
- Financial management: Assist in managing and reducing costs of the sub-functions
- Continuous improvement and functional change: Identify, advocate for and lead functional improvement and change. Create a culture of continuous improvement and change agility in function
- Engagement/communication: Engage with managers, operations and cross- functionally with peers
- Participate in cross functional money teams to focus on value creation initiatives
- Provide technical inputs to end-users and commercial team members to ensure fit for purpose contracts
- Assist with resolving technical contractual matters and ensure contracts support commodity strategy
- Participate in cross functional money teams to focus on value creation initiatives
- Facilitate and draft scope of work for commodity (Request for Quote (RFQ)/ Request for Proposals (RFPs)/Request for Information (RFI))
- Assist in the maintenance of portfolio strategic contracts
- Increase contract base by contract establishment
- Assist in material resource planning for commodity-based purchases
- Manage supplier and vendor performance
- Contribute to supplier development
- Influence supplier base in terms of involvement with local economic development initiatives
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Previous experience as Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Reliability, Asset Manager, Electrical Engineer, Plant engineer, Production Engineer
- ECSA registration
- At least 3-5 years Supply Chain Management experience or commodity exposure
- Strong mining or factories experience essential
