Job Description:

The Finance Manager is a key member of the project team to deliver budget objectives.  The role will lead the in-country finance function.  Reporting to the CFO initially and then the Site General Manager, the role will work closely with the Project Manager and Country Manager.



  • Lead the finance team
  • Implement the ERP for the project
  • Develop and implement financial controls and processes (emphasis on this during construction)
  • Systems set up and management, focusing on continuous improvement and development of the finance function
  • Project forecasting, budget control and project cost control
  • Flag risks and opportunities to enable mitigation
  • Ensure financial and tax requirements under relevant legislation are met
  • Meet internal and external reporting requirements
  • Clearly articulate goals and provide open and transparent communication with colleagues
  • Provide leadership to demonstrate Company’s commitment to health and safety
  • Conform to company policy and protocols and ensure compliance with all statutory and company obligations
  • Design, implement and maintain strong business processes and internal controls 
  • Building the team
  • Provide timely and accurate financial preparation and completion of key financial reporting within agreed / statutory timeframes (monthly, quarterly, 6 monthly and annual)
  • Manage the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts, variance analysis and flash reports for line managers and Management (site and H/O) and JV partner
  • Establish and manage strong Project cost controls and reporting with particular focus on forecast cost to complete and reconciliations of cost to date to the General Ledger
  • Establish and manage strong controls, reporting and payment of all direct and indirect taxes (including all tax returns)
  • Regularly liaise with H/O Finance team in relation to reporting requirements, audit queries, cash flow forecasts, monthly balance sheet reconciliations and other information requests as they arise
  • Manage local insurance matters (noting that all insurances are procured by H/O Finance)
  • Manage compliance with the approved operating and capital budgets and ensure line managers are held accountable for performance against these
  • Deliver accurate and timely short-term cash flow forecasts for liquidity management on a weekly basis and monthly cash calls
  • Cost improvement
  • Support the operations and project teams to develop business cases for major capital work and new business opportunities (for example) in accordance with the Group Capital Approval Policy


Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Professional accounting qualification
  • Relevant tertiary degree
  • Experience in business partnering and analysis or management accounting
  • Strong expat experience working in West Africa
  • Expert with ERP Implementation
  • Strong with project cost control
  • Strong understanding and application of accounting standards (both SYSCOA and IFRS)
  • Strong financial and problem-solving skills; Strong commercial acumen
  • Working knowledge of applicable Malian laws
