Context:
Safety’s purpose is to support a step change in business performance by developing the organisation’s capability to manage risks and exploit opportunities in Safety.
Purpose:
Transitory role to ensure capability gaps on site as well as Group level are closed to ensure the new safety structure can be implemented and work effectively. Lead Capability Development is concerned with capabilities of safety professionals as well as line employees.
Key Tasks:
Safety & Health
- Exemplify a culture where safety and health is paramount and act as a role model.
- Visibly lead by example and set clear, consistent expectations, including consistent use of systems, symbols and behaviours aligned to the companies values.
- Create culture to embrace feedback and be open to challenge unsafe behaviours.
- Ensure application of safety & health principles in all operational and non-operational interactions.
Performance & Delivery
- Apply gap analysis to define required capabilities for an effective implementation of the 'to-be' safety organisation.
- Conduct Health of Discipline assessments, identify systemic proficiency gaps within the domain.
- Select appropriate safety training needs for all levels of management and operations.
- Build required capabilities in operational leadership, line and safety professionals.
- Define the delivery approach and affected stakeholders to receive trainings to close the capability gap.
- Facilitate closing of identified capability gap by e.g. develop required training concepts.
- Develop programs to build capability and improve overall proficiency.
- Advise on development of relevant safety training modules (e.g. for incident investigation) for safety and line.
- Design and setup training networks/modes of delivery (e.g. classroom, e-learning, etc.).
- Develop and refine training and development programs to build Safety leadership capability and capacity across all organizational levels and disciplines within the company.
- Identify leading training and development practices within and external to the industry which can facilitate safety leadership capability building.
- Update training manuals for all training modules.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline OR a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity.
- A demonstrated thought leader and considered a global expert in the understanding and application of the discipline/ field of Safety.
- Track record of leading ideas generation; translating these into practical initiatives to be implemented and demonstration of successful execution and delivery within Safety and Risk Management.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior people leadership role within a technical environment, including the coordination of knowledge sharing across a discipline, managing workload and reviewing the work of others to ensure consistency with task requirements.
- Understands the complexities and application of integrated behaviour based safety management.
- Devised and successfully executed the implementation of complex systems and projects using a recognised change management methodology.
- Provides a consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety.
- Must be fluent in English.
- Regular domestic, regional and international travel will be required.
- Work on site at mine operations may be required. This may involve activities of a physical nature in a typical mine environment (for example noise, vibration, high altitude, heat, small spaces, high altitude, reduced visibility).
- Skill and experience in interacting with media, shareholders, board members, unions, government officials is required.
