Job Description:
Reporting to the Managing Director, the primary purpose of the Mining Manager will be to manage mining operations effectively and efficiently, costs, personnel, safety, environmental and industrial responsibilities in the mining department in order to achieve the set targets.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the Mining department efficiently to achieve the set targets.
- Provide Technical and Operational support & guidance to the mining operations teams.
- Prepare short (Weekly/Monthly), medium (Monthly/Quarterly) and long term (Quarterly/Yearly) mining production forecast to meet business objectives.
- Analyse and interpret performance trends and variances, and initiate change.
- Liaison with technical services on material volumes and grade supply against targets.
- Optimisation of ore throughput.
- Optimisation of unit operations efficiencies against cost drivers – explosives, development vs production. Improve operational practices to increase utilisation and margins.
- Co-ordinate major mining operations shutdowns with engineering and maintenance
- Develop and implement all operating procedures.
- Provide technical consulting services for the mining operations.
- Drive improvement projects to reduce mining unit cost.
- Ensure material; water and ore balances are according to plan.
- Ensure Final mined ore quality control
- Interprets LOM plan and transfer into operational strategy to create effective systems and structures.
- Provides input to Tech Services Manager to optimise and improve mine plans.
- Ensure continuous reconciliation of mine plan against actual production.
- Identify capital projects, studies, and operating projects.
- Research, Analyse and justify the financial benefits of capital projects.
- Assist with projects design for implementation when required.
- Coordinate and monitor project implementations.
- Provide technical adjudication for projects and tenders
- Ensure management of contractors
- Evaluate that the completed project provides the payback indicated.
- Define assign and coordinate the scope of work for the engineering team
- Develop, implement, and monitor/achieve effective capital and operating budgets.
- Effectively liaise and manage relations with clients and suppliers
- Manage HSE strategies for the mining operation.
- Manage mining operations optimisation initiatives.
- Assist with development and implementation of policies and operational procedures.
- Mentoring, Coaching, Training and Development of team.
- Related Senior Management experiences within an operational mine.
- Astute leadership skills supported by excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Mining, Mine Planning and equivalent Managerial Training
- Master’s degree in Mining, Mining Engineering Mine Planning and equivalent - Managerial Training (Advantageous)
- UG Blasting Ticket. Mine’s certificate of competency
- Commodity experience: Silver and Base metals
- 10 years post qualification mining operations leadership experience in an underground Mine environment
- 5 years in a senior managerial position
