Job Description:

The Non-Executive Director will contribute to the board by providing independent oversight to proceedings and constructively challenge the executive board on issues of strategy direction, performance monitoring, risk management and stakeholder management, including IT issues. The successful candidate is a senior professional with relevant experience and qualifications within the banking industry within Sub-Saharan Africa, with a solid track record of achievement in leading IT initiatives within large Financial Institutions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Add value by providing input and consult that is expert, independent, and external.
  • Assess organisational objectives and constructively challenge current plans to enhance the business strategies.
  • Offer informed contributions to the executive board by providing a wider view of external factors that affect the organisation or the business climate.
  • Be well versed on IT matters and be able to offer guidance to the bank on these issues.
  • Evaluate the performance of the management in meeting their goals and objectives.
  • The board member will engage on a frequent basis (at least quarterly) to discuss performance and assist in value creation initiatives.
  • Along with the rest of the board, the Non-Executive Director will monitor the reporting of performance to ensure that the obligations to the shareholders are respected.
  • Ensure reasonable and efficient controls are in place for assessing and managing risk.
  • Provide leadership to ensure the board and shareholders that the financial controls and systems of IT and risk management are strong and defensible.
  • Work alongside the board to make sure that sufficient financial and human resources are in place to meet objectives.
  • Advise on responsible remuneration practices and other HR issues such as monitoring executive performance and succession planning.

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • 10+ years relevant Senior Executive leadership experience, having served as a CEO, COO or CIO in a bank, PE fund, DFI or FI environment within Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Working experience and networking connections within Africa.
  • Experience in building and maintaining strategic coalitions and convening when and where necessary.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise effectively. Strong project/process management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Contractual Information:

  • The successful incumbent can be based in any location. However, he/she will be required to attend board meetings in Zambia up to 5 times a year.
