Job Description:
The client is a large mining company with an exciting opportunity to plan, measure, monitor and report on all costs, quantities and contractual obligations associated with the companies’ tailings projects from outset (tendering) until completion. Additionally, all commercial projects are to be managed covering tendering, estimating, contract reviews, escalation and payment certificates.
Responsibilities:
- Execute project and/or operational responsibilities for their function in line with organisational strategy, in order to achieve set goals.
- Report to General Manager on QS functional performance, as well as project performance on cost and quantity.
- Report to Senior Manager: Commercial on QS functional performance and compliance.
- Executing their function to support sustainability of the broader business, as per operational and financial project requirements.
- Undertake cost analysis for work tasks.
- Provide assistance and/or advice on procurement related matters and ensure that budgets are adhered to while working within the FA Procurement Policies.
- Prepare and analyse costings for cost reports.
- Prepare, analyse and provide advice on contractual claims.
- Ensure professional interaction with client and all stakeholders, at middle to senior management level.
- Maintain working relationship with Shared Service structures with regards to their function, in support of compliant and profitable project delivery and governance.
- Engage with internal management structures, to ensure business alignment through line reporting structures.
- Ensure that site staff fill in all reports accurately and timeously which are necessary for cost and quantity control.
- Compile cost reports by analysing measurement, site reports and tender information.
- Report cost analysis to the Country Operations Manager and/or General Manager on a monthly basis.
- Compile cost/production graphs and distribute to relevant stakeholders.
- Analyse outcomes and write detailed progress reports relating to costs, quantities and production.
- Obtain monthly measurements of all work done on site and compile a month end certificate for submission to the client for payment.
- Quantify work done by abstracting measurements from drawings.
- Quantify work done, but not shown on the contract drawing.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- B Degree / B Tech in Quantity Surveying or an equivalent qualification.
- Responsible for measurement, certification and contract management.
- Must have experience with FIDIC Red book/GCC/NEC or similar bespoke contracts.
- Registration as a Professional Quantity Surveyor with SACQSP.Content
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Construction/Quantity Surveying field.
- At least 5 years’ experience on large projects greater than R100m
- Supervisory or staff management experience will be an advantage.
- Solid understanding of the Mining Industry with specific emphasis on Tailings
- Excellent knowledge of quantity surveying best practices
- Excellent Quantity surveying and planning skills
- Good Financial management and budget control
- Good Networking and motivational skills
