Job Description:


Our client is looking for a Senior Business Development Manager based in Cape Town, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards their vision – Improving their future.  As our Senior Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for securing and structuring Renewable Energy Transactions in the public and private sector from early opportunity through the development cycle to financial close. Your ability to structure and negotiate complex transactions, to lead external and internal commercial and development processes, and to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams is key to successfully lead projects into construction. Projects focus on utility scale size and commonly greater than 50MW.


Responsibilities:


  • Conduct market reviews, analyze, and stay informed about the competitive landscape, regulations, and policies for utility-scale renewable energy projects in both public and private auctions.
  • Assist in developing the market strategy and planning.
  • Identify and reach out to potential customers and build and manage strategic partnerships.
  • Lead negotiations with offtakes and related stakeholders.
  • Create a strong business case in alignment with the company's guidelines.
  • Support and lead the process of securing equity and debt finance for projects until financial close.
  • Lead negotiations with development partners.
  • Plan and coordinate internal and external project development activities, including securing land rights, obtaining necessary local permits and approvals, securing interconnection rights from utilities, negotiating PPAs with utilities, and establishing EPC and O&M agreements.
  • Lead the bidding process in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from both public and private offtakes.
  • Serve as a credible counterpart to off-takers during the procurement and implementation process.
  • Manage project teams, typically consisting of 10-20 individuals, including internal resources, consultants, and development subcontractors.
  • Ensure adherence to integrity standards and operating system procedures.


Requirements: Qualification and Skill


  • Financial, Business, Legal, or Technical university level degree
  • 7-10 years professional experience in energy sector client-facing
  • Experience with closing complex transactions, deal structuring and project finance and experience in Business-to-Business Sales and/or transactions
  • Working knowledge and understanding of power purchase agreements, wheeling and interconnection agreements, trading and aggregation with a strong knowledge of business fundamentals and financial analysis
  • Project Management, Storytelling and presentation skills
  • Language: fluent both written and spoken in English, second language is advantages
  • General Project Finance, Tender Management and Legal Competency
  • Experience with permitting of renewable energy projects preferrable
