Senior Contracts Manager (Mining / Contractor / Open Pit / Mining Engineering) – Northern Cape, South Africa

 

Job Description:

Reporting to the Operations Executive, this position is the most senior position on an open pit contract site and is responsible for ensuring that the contract meets its performance objectives. Further to this, this position is the interface between the Contractor (company) and the Client at site level. Key to the delivery of this position, is ensuring all the functional areas under its control delivers to agreed performance standards.

 

Responsibilities:

• As the interface between the client and Company, ensure a sound working relationship is always maintained, through regular formal and informal engagement sessions
• Responsible for ensuring the contract performs as per agreed budget and delivers set KPI’s on time
• Responsible for ensuring the functional areas under his/her control is performing to agreed performance standards
• Responsible for maintaining relationships with suppliers, customers and community (all relevant stakeholders)
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and devise plans to implement these changes
• Accountable for all safety, health and environmental standards and conditions on site
• Provide leadership and direction to the site
• Conduct regular site performance reviews to ensure all performance conditions and standards are meeting set targets
• Accountable for the performance of the fleet of equipment on site by ensuring the Engineering function meets the agreed availability and utilization targets
• Accountable to ensure that trends of underperformance are formally addressed, with clear documented performance improvement plans
• Ensure the contract is performing in line with the contract deliverables
• Ensure the contract performs against the agreed tender initially submitted for the project, which includes performance against the agreed tender margin and that the contract remains within the agreed tender allowables and budget in terms of gross profit and cash flow
• Always ensure adherence to Company procedures and Group policies
• Responsible for all operational activities at site level by ensuring daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial and operational performance objectives are met
• As a senior leader, leverage off the strengths of the team to ensure the project meets its objectives and where required hold fellow team members accountable for their outputs
• As a senior leader instill and live the values and purpose both internally with employees and externally with all stakeholders
• Understand the area mining market with early identification and pursual of internal and external growth opportunities

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• Relevant tertiary qualification such as Mining Engineering degree / Civil Engineering degree or equivalent degree related to mining.
• Financial / Commercial qualifications would be advantageous
• At least 10 years operational site work related experience
• Open Pit Mining experience essential
• Contract Mining Management experience
• Blasting ticket and Mine Managers ticket advantageous
• Deep technical knowledge of open cast mining operations
• Be an effective communicator and influencer
• Relationship building & People management skills
• In depth knowledge of fleet management
