Job Description:


 


Our client, a large underground mining contractor is seeking a Senior Estimator to be based at their head office in Johannesburg. The candidate will be tasked with preparing detailed analysis of projects and liaising with engineers and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.


 


Responsibilities:


  • Analyse enquiry documents
  • Prepare analysis of projects to include preliminary methodology, equipment selection calculations, life cycle cost, labour efficiencies
  • Visit site and record information about the overall Mine, the conditions, management, availability of services such as water and electricity,
  • Review labour requirements and material, to decide the most cost-effective solution.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
  • Enter team sizes and production rates
  • Consult with stakeholders to discuss and formulate estimates
  • Schedule & manage bidding process and coordinate role player input
  • Analyse blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labour estimates
  • Decide whether to price the enquiry in consultation with management by looking at tender workload and preliminary evaluation
  • BOQ (Bill of Quantities) compilation
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Estimating of tenders


 


 


Requirements: Qualification and Skill


  • Mining / Engineer or other Mining related qualification
  • Quantity Surveyor Degree
  • Work well on computer packages
  • Worked in a production environment
  • 5 -10 years active planning, scheduling and execution of mining projects / tenders
  • Knowledge of Hard Dollar – estimating package
  • Checking of submission documents
  • Utilising of mining programmes (Deswik, Mine24D, Bentley or AutoCAD Packages)
  • Project Management Experience
  • Knowledge of Contracts
  • Knowledge of the Mine Health & Safety Act and Regulations
