Job Description:

Our client, an international mining house, is seeking a Senior Manager:  Project Portfolio Assurance, who will support the VP: Project Governance in designing, governing and maintaining project management systems and processes. The ideal incumbent will have experience in project governance or assurance in the mining industry.   

Responsibilities:

• Providing leadership to project teams by reviewing work and ensuring deadlines are understood and adhered to, and that that project objectives are clearly articulated and understood.
• Reviewing of project status reports and identify early warnings of potential deviations from Board approved targets.
• Working with the study and project managers to re-assess and amend the scope of work requirement, budget and timeline.
• Assisting in determining priorities among project activities.
• Assisting with the governance of the Group’s project and capital management processes.
• Assisting with the design, governance and maintenance of the Group’s policies, standards and guidelines applicable to project investments.
• Participating in and contributing to independent project reviews for projects during the project development stages.
• Analysing the Business units capital spend profiles and identifying trends.
• Review project-related records, including authorisations, change orders, actuals, commitments and forecasts.
• Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management.
• Review project plans and documentation and identify potential study and execution risks.
• Review of project status reports on projects and identify early warning of potential deviations from Board approved targets.
• Investigate project management software for use by project teams.
• Review and monitor project execution plans for major projects.
• Assist in the effective co-ordination of the activities of the study teams to meet project milestones.
• Proactively identify changes in work scope and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with the study and project managers.
• Involve functional expertise and specialist staff in design reviews and key decisions.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• Minimum 15 years’ experience in the process and extractive industries.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in a senior position working in project governance and assurance or as a project or study manager within the mining industry.
• A degree qualification in a relevant mining or engineering related discipline.
• Sound understanding of components and key drivers of the mining value chain.
