Job Description:


Our client is a multinational gold mining company with operations in West Africa who require a Corporate Senior Metallurgist to report directly into the Group Metallurgist. The primary purpose of the Senior Metallurgist is to identify, develop and safely drive to completion projects that positively impact cash flow.  The successful candidate will focus on implementing existing projects and bringing new ideas forward to positively influence recovery, throughput, and spend at the Company’s gold processing plants. The Senior Metallurgist also leads site Metallurgists by continuously providing metallurgical expertise through measured guidance and training. The successful candidate will manage activities as needed to support the execution of an optimized business plan.  The person in this position will coordinate activities that support Company best business practices and be part of a team that ensures all assets worth is maximized while staying true to the Company Purpose and Values.


 


Responsibilities:


  • Develop a broader knowledge of the business to assist in making good business decisions;
  • Achieve results by taking personal accountability for individual and team objectives;
  • Make decisions in the context of current company and regional metrics and delivering outcomes within required timeframes; and
  • Actively participating in personal development opportunities
  • Work directly with external engineering firms to develop optimized designs and plans for projects on time and on budget
  • Use technical writing skills to author sections of design reports as required
  • Support the development of Corporate Metallurgical Standards, and provide technical support to operations to enable the achievement of the required performance standards
  • Develop appropriate review and testwork programs to address metallurgical issues and to drive continuous improvement
  • Develop in conjunction with site, appropriate plant modifications to address metallurgical issues and to drive continuous improvement
  • Develop relationships with external consultants for provision of expert technical support as required
  • Schedule regular meetings to update on and influence projects.
  • Monitor and report on prevailing process plant behaviour, intervene as needed to troubleshoot and guide solution implementation in support of improved cash flow.
  • Co-ordinate plant surveys on an as needed basis to support metallurgical justification for projects.
  • Provide input into weekly/monthly metallurgy report
  • Developing technical knowledge, establishing and monitoring technical systems and managing with external stakeholders and:
  • Actively support expansion project activities.
  • Organise, liaise and co-ordinate external consultants/contractors for project and CAPEX work.
  • Assist in commissioning and hand-over of new plant unit operations to site Operations.
  • Identify, define and design medium to long term project work to improve on the approved business plan.
  • Identify and drive change to improve plant reliability and cost effectiveness.
  • Identify and progress continuous improvement opportunities using best practice.
  • High level troubleshooting of plant issues as required in conjunction with site based Plant Metallurgists.
  • Respond appropriately to all losses of containment within the treatment Plant.
  • Provide expertise to site based Plant Metallurgists in general metallurgical principles and operating practices


 


Requirements: Qualification and Skill


  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of 10 years industrial plant experience including at least 3 years in project development; at least 3 years in direct operations roles
  • Demonstrated self-guiding and focused on improvements in business performance.
  • Strong computer knowledge and skills particular in Microsoft® Office applications. Pi data historian, MetSim, JK SimMet experience a plus.
  • Ability to lead a project team both internal and external from a position of support.
  • Ability to maintain work group focus on safety and environmental considerations.
  • Applying sound metallurgical or engineering concepts in design work.
  • Ability to work unsupervised or as part of a team.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • A demonstrated track record in analytical problem solving together with an aptitude to problem solving


 


Benefits and Contractual information:


  • Regular travel to Sites is a requirement of the position and is expected to be a minimum of quarterly per year. Other travel may be required associated with project work.
