Job Description:
Our client, a pioneering tin exploration and development company is looking to employ a Short Term Mine Planning Engineer to join their operations in the DRC. The ideal candidate will ensure that short term plans (0 to 12 months) are in place, are implementable and accepted by Mining Department, and that these support medium- and long-term plans and objectives, based on tons and grade of tin, taking into account all modifying factors, losses etc.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain health, safety and environment standards within the internal environment
- Comply to health, safety, security and housekeeping standards in your work environment
- Maintain and update Mine Planning-related MRM policies and procedures
- Apply and continuously improve Mine Planning-related MRM policies and procedures.
- Comply with requirements of the MRM Quality Management System
- Monitor and control costs in area of responsibility
- Safeguard company assets (working capital & fixed assets)
- Identify cost saving and cash conservation opportunities
- Drive cost saving and cash conservation initiatives
- Check Monthly Mining Invoices (volumetric and spatial) and reconcile back to Monthly Mine Plan
- Foster and maintain customer relations and handle and attend to a range of customer complaints
- Foster and maintain supplier relations.
- Conduct problem solving and troubleshooting of MRM Mine Planning systems
- Assist with converting Mine Planning conceptual layouts into Survey data
- Rolling six-month plan, showing depletions, tons, grade, etc.,
- Waste dump planning and dumping strategy (liaison with Mining and Mine Survey)
- Design and siting of drainage (surface & underground, in liaison with Mining and Mine Survey)
- Schedules short term planning sessions (preplanning)
- Liaises with Long Term Planning Engineer (external), Mining and MRM functions (Geology & Survey) and gains agreement/commitment on short term plans before implementation
- Assists with short term planning meetings
- Coordinates gathering of data and inputs for short term planning sessions
- Assist with ventilation layouts and ad hoc monitoring thereof.
- Uses reconciliations to analyse performance to provide input into corrective planning (should be used for scrutiny planning)
- Coordinates daily reporting
- Ensure that the Mining Contractor adheres to Survey layouts and limits and report any Mining Contractor non-conformances
- Verify Survey-calculated monthly volumetric and spatial reconciliation against Monthly Mine Plans, and report on variances as well as corrective measures, when required.
- Assist with compiling Monthly Mining Reconciliation reports (with Survey).
- Assist with compiling MRM Reports (including Annual Report and Competent persons Report)
- Manage the Mine Planning function to achieve work unit objectives (individuals and teams)
- Plan, organise and monitor work in own area of responsibility
- Manage individual and team performance
- Help with management conflicts within the workplace
- Ensure discipline is maintained in the section (Absenteeism, Time Management, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
- Help with management conflicts within the workplace and; resolve grievances and disputes
- Mentor individuals to enhance the individual`s knowledge, skills, values and attitudes
- Conduct on-the-job training and coaching as required or where deemed necessary.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- 3 - 5 years relevant industry experience of which at least 2 years should be as a Mine Planner
- Technical knowledge of mine planning, surveying and geology disciplines
- Good reporting and numerical skills
- Strong communication skills (written & verbal)
- Good computer skills
- Experience in underground mine scheduling techniques
- Proficiency in English highly advantageous
- Experience in cut & fill underground mining methods highly advantageous.
