Job Description:

Our client, one of Africa’s leading renewable energy companies, is seeking a Technical Project Development Manager who will be responsible for managing project development initiatives for projects in South Africa including site identification, land acquisitions, obtaining required licensing and permits and establishes all the technical requirements for projects across all phases of the project life cycle in order to ensure business growth and financeable and commercial competitive projects for the company. The ideal incumbent will have experience in managing project development initiatives in the power generation industry.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the project development team which includes land, environmental and technical personnel in order to ensure the feasibility of the project. Project development teams may change between projects.
• Manage project development activities, which includes land acquisition and lease agreements, grid access evaluation, permitting, licensing and authorizations, technology selection and yield studies, to ensure projects are financeable, bid and construction ready.
• Provides technical input during the financial close process on preferred bidder projects.
• Manages the due diligence process relating to project development activities on projects for potential acquisitions and advising the business viability of projects.
• Assist with project development activities in the rest of Africa.
• Report on project development activities to the Business Development Director and stakeholders.
• Assist the Business Development Director with the technical aspects of contract negotiations with Engineer, Procure and Construct Contractor (EPC) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M contractors).
• Assist in the Business Development Director preparation of the technical aspects of the EPC and O&M Requests for proposal (RFPs).
• Reviews EPC and O&M proposals and assist with the documentation in order to advises the company on preferred suppliers.
• Assist the Business Development Director with the reviewing and negotiating of EPC and O&M proposal pricing.
• Managing project development budgets and supplier invoices and submits payments for approval.
• Reviews plant designs for bid submission in order to ensure technical, feasible and compliant plant.
• Engages with third parties for wind and solar project resource analyses.
• Provides technical input into all aspects of project development and across the various business functions.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• At least 5 - 7 years’ experience in the Power Generation Industry.
• At least 2 – 3 years’ experience in leading/management role in a renewable energy project development environment.
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering
• Knowledge of Project Finance
