Job Description:


Our client is seeking an experienced HSE Manager to join a complex, high-risk operational environment in Durban. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an individual who is passionate about operational safety, visible field leadership, and driving continuous improvement across a large workforce. The successful candidate will report to executive management & play a key role in strengthening safety culture, leading regulatory compliance, and partnering with operational leadership to support business performance within a dynamic industrial environment.


 


Responsibilities:


  • Provide visible, field-based HSE leadership across all operational areas and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Develop, implement and maintain HSE policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses and corrective action implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable HSE legislation, regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Build strong working relationships with operational teams, contractors, unions and regulatory authorities.
  • Oversee contractor HSE compliance, training programmes, competency management and emergency preparedness.
  • Monitor HSE performance, analyse trends and provide regular reports to executive management.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen operational safety and environmental performance.


 


Requirements: Qualification and Skill


  • SAMTRAC or equivalent SAQA-recognised Occupational Health and Safety qualification (minimum NQF Level 5); NEBOSH qualification advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years' HSE leadership experience within heavy industrial, logistics, manufacturing, mining or related operational environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, COID Act and relevant South African HSE legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading field-based safety programmes and promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Experience engaging with organised labour, contractors and regulatory authorities within unionised environments.
  • Strong incident investigation, risk management and emergency response experience.
  • ISO 45001 knowledge and internal auditing experience will be advantageous.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management and reporting skills.
