Job Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Production Manager to oversee the day-to-day execution of open-pit mining operations on a major mining project in West Africa. The role is responsible for ensuring production targets are achieved safely, efficiently and in accordance with the mine plan. The successful candidate will lead mining superintendents, supervisors and dispatch teams while optimizing equipment productivity and operational performance. This is a site-based FIFO position suited to a senior mining professional with strong load and haul, drill and blast, dispatch and production management experience.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily open-pit drilling, blasting, loading and hauling operations.
  • Deliver daily, weekly and monthly production targets in line with the mine plan.
  • Monitor and optimise mobile equipment productivity, utilisation and performance.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve production.
  • Lead Mining Superintendents, Supervisors and Dispatch teams, ensuring accountability and operational discipline.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance and Technical Services to support effective mine plan execution.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Solid understanding of drilling, blasting, fleet productivity, dispatch and production management.

  • 8–15 years’ relevant mining experience, including the minimum statutory experience required for appointment as Mine Manager and demonstrated experience in a mine management or senior mining leadership position.
  • Proven experience in managing mining production, safety, people and operational costs, with experience in the relevant commodity and mining method preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable mining legislation, regulations and statutory requirements, including Mine Health and Safety systems, risk management and accident prevention.

  • Plan and manage exploration, infill, extension, geotechnical, and grade control drilling programmes.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology, Geological Sciences, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years’ mining industry experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior geological position within base metals, preferably copper.
  • Strong expertise in geological modelling and mineral resource estimation using Leapfrog Geo, Vulcan, Datamine, or similar software.
  • Hands-on experience with mine fleet management and mine planning systems (e.g., Modular Mining, Wenco, Deswik, MineSight, or equivalent) and integration of geological models into operational mine plans.
  • Extensive open-pit geology experience, with a strong background in grade control, production geology, drilling programs, ore block definition, and mine-to-mill reconciliation.
  • Proven ability to manage geological teams and drilling programs across greenfield and brownfield mining projects.
  • Good knowledge of JORC 2012, NI 43-101, or SAMREC reporting requirements.
  • Strong understanding of copper deposit geology, including supergene and hypogene mineralisation and structural controls.
  • Experience supporting a mining project through a PEA-to-PFS or PFS-to-DFS transition.
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical and slope monitoring technologies, including slope radar, LiDAR, and UAV photogrammetry, with an understanding of geological and hydrogeological influences on pit stability.
