Job Description:
Under the supervision and guidance of the Head of Credit Risk Unit, the credit risk associate will be responsible for performing in-depth credit analyses and making recommendations to Credit Committees based on financial statements and other sources of information for existing and prospective customers.
Responsibilities:
- Assess the credit and financial strength of credit applicants by performing fundamental credit analysis using both quantitative (Financial Statements, Cash flows, Financial Ratios, Financial projections, Terms and conditions) and qualitative factors including structure of the transactions, compliance and legal documents.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

The Market Risk Unit is within the broad mandate of Risk Management Department (RMD) which oversees the implementation of the organizations Risk Management Framework covering Credit Risk (and Credit Administration), Market Risk, and Operational Risk.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision and guidance of the Director, Risk Management Department, and the Market Risk Unit Head, the Market Risk Associate will have the following responsibilities:

- Review and maintain up-to-date Treasury Risk Management operational procedures, propose new controls and optimized processes.

Requirements:
- Hold at least a Masters degree or its equivalent (another post graduate qualification) in Business Administration, Finance, Banking or related field.
- Familiarity with the credit rating methodologies of international rating agencies (Moodys, Fitch and S&P) preferably with prior working knowledge/experience in the same.
- Strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of financial statement analysis and accounting concepts.
- Ability to deal with large volumes of data, proficiency with figures and the ability to maintain accuracy and be detail oriented while complying with deadlines.
- Strong Excel/Word/PowerPoint and database application skills. Ability to prepare forecasts based upon reasoned assumptions will be required.

The purpose of the role is to support Afreximbank’s SME Development Unit to achieve its primary objective of facilitating the integration of African SMEs into export value chains. The SME Development Unit is situated within the Bank’s Export Development Directorate. The department is central to the Industrialization and Export Development pillar of the Bank’s current strategic plan, and to Afreximbank’s underlying mission. The Bank’s mission is to “stimulate a consistent expansion of, and diversification of African trade so as to rapidly increase Africa’s share of global trade, while operating as a first class, profit oriented, socially responsible financial institution and a centre of excellence in African trade matters”
Responsibilities:
- Reviews and Analysis:
Preliminary review of all financing and non-financing requests submitted by counterparties to ensure they meet the Bank’s eligibility criteria.
- Carry out basic financial analysis by calculating relevant financial ratios including, leverage, profitability, efficiency, and cover ratios. etc
- Assist in evaluating the underlying financial assumptions of client proposals to ensure that they are credible and realistic.
- Analyze historical and projected financial statements.

Job Description:
The Head of Compliance Risk Assessment, Governance & Testing shall support the Group Director, CFCC by delivering the strategy and execution of the Compliance, Financial Crime Risk and Conduct Risk assessment programs for the Group. This includes performance of annual Risk and Control assessments for Compliance, FCR and Conduct. Responsibilities:
- Responsible for leading the Compliance, Financial Crime Risk and Conduct Risk assessment programs, including the integration of related activities with the ERMF and other risk management frameworks in the Group.
- Collaborates with stakeholders from Risk and the business to develop tactical and strategic solutions to enhance and streamline the risk assessment processes for Compliance, FC and Conduct.
- Lead Compliance, FC and Conduct risk assessment, oversight, governance and testing meetings. Also responsible for the overall programs including ongoing process improvements, managing and tracking assessment activities, and follow-up of assigned actions.
- Lead the design and delivery of a portfolio of Compliance, FC and Conduct risk tests scripts to monitor compliance with regulation and internal policy.
- Oversight and delivery of Compliance, FC and Conduct ongoing scenarios assessment workshops, so that Group anticipates threats, assesses vulnerabilities, and ensures readiness and resiliency.
- Compilation, validation and monthly delivery of Group Compliance, FC and Conduct risk appetite monitoring, including escalations, referrals, and tracking.
- Analyze compliance, FC and conduct risk events, perform root cause analysis on respective controls and ensure remediation is well designed to avoid repeat of risks and/or issues.
- Support the Business teams in Compliance, FC and Conduct risk self-identification processes and ensure self-identified issues in relation to first line controls are well analyzed and documented with properly designed remediating actions, and track actions to completion.
- Engage in risk discussions with internal/external auditors, regulators and other risk functions within the Group.
- Provide leadership to team members and support in leading the larger Risk & Compliance organization across the Group
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Master’s degree plus relevant professional qualifications such as CAMS, ICA.
- Requires 15+ years of professional experience and 6+ years of management experience.
Critical Skills:
- No less than 12 years of compliance, financial crime and conduct risk management experience, with significant portion in risk assessment, governance and testing within a large international bank.
- Strong understanding of compliance, FC and conduct risk obligations and requirements within the banking industry.
- Good experience in leveraging analytics and technology solutions to manage risk assessments and other initiatives.

The incumbent is to provide independent risk oversight over treasury/investments activities including management and reporting of treasury risks associated with borrowings from the capital markets, investment activities, and overall assets and liabilities management. The expert will also provide analytical support, advice and opinions to enable the company to make informed and profitable investment and borrowing decisions with a view to preserve capital, optimize profitability and maintain a strong credit rating.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision and guidance of the Director, Risk Management & Compliance Department, the Market Risk (Treasury) Expert will have the following responsibilities:
- Ongoing compliance monitoring and risk reporting of treasury/investments activities, market and counterparty credit risk exposures, and the provision of related treasury risk expertise in support of the overall risk management activities of the company.
- Collect complex market information and process/simplify it ready for decision-making.
- Review and assignment of counterpart exposure limits in accordance with the company’s prudential policies, as well as maintaining and updating the approved lists of counterparties and limits for depository banks, brokers, futures counterparties, etc.
- Review of proposed investment/divestment/reallocation and other decisions/proposals from the Investments department prior to their submission to the Investment Committee.
- Preparation of periodic risk reports to the Assets and Liability Management Committee (ALCO), and Audit/Risk Committee covering the investments portfolio.
- Provide necessary input on treasury activities and risks to internal and external auditors as appropriate.
- Review of Investment Manager’s periodic reports and advising on their overall performance in managing the company’s assets and complying with applicable limits and constraints.
- Analyse and advise on complex or recurrent issues arising from the bank’s investments and liquidity portfolios such as the costs and valuation of derivative contracts, calculation and analysis of Potential Future exposure (PFE), etc.
- Keep abreast of developments on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and their impacts on reporting in financial statements, especially in relation to complex financial instruments;
- Verification and ongoing monitoring of the matching between the financial terms of the bank’s assets and liabilities to maintain market risk within the bank’s risk appetite statement.
- Working with financial data providers to collect and analyse all market data necessary for portfolios valuation, counterparties credit profile assessments, and other treasury data needs.
- Maintain approved lists of ISDA, ISMA, depository banks, brokers and futures counterparties.
- Review and maintain up-to-date Treasury Risk Management operational procedures, propose new controls and optimized processes to reduce operational risk;
- Participate to the negotiation and review of clauses in ISDA/CSA and GMRA agreements to ensure an adequate legal framework for treasury operations;
- Contribute to the implementation of treasury risk measures or activity dashboards needed to be in line with industry standards, best practices, audit and rating agencies requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Requirements:
- Hold at least a Master's degree or its equivalent in Business Administration, Finance, Banking.
- Professional certification in Risk and/or Finance such as Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Professional Risk Manager (PRM), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF) will be an advantage.
- Have a minimum of six (6) years of relevant professional experience in International Financial Institutions or Investment Banks, with a large scope of treasury or fixed income activities. Working experience in Fixed Income and Derivatives front-office, middle-office or risk management departments will be an advantage.
