What industry do you work in and what exactly are your skills?
I work for a Foundation and my skills are Strategic Management, Training, Youth Development, Public speaking, Inter-governmental collaboration, partnership and networking at Regional Level.
What inspired you to get into this sort of industry?
A passion and desire to contribute positively and make Africa and the world at large a better place tomorrow.
What qualifications and experience did you have to gain In order to establish yourself and therefore become a professional within your industry?
A University degree in social sciences,people management and experience working in a multicultural setting, strong networking and programme management skills as well as experience working with several varied Countries at a Continetal level through corporate, governments and Civil Society Organisations.
What is the most challenging aspect within your field of work?
People management especially as varied as the number of Continents we have can be thrilling. People are beyond their name and skills and thus, one need to have an appreciation of the fact that people are made of a bulky of stuff that can be both quantitative and qualitative.
How do you manage and overcome these challenges?
Understanding and appreciating people as different from you and having a genuine interest in people, patience and being open.
What has been the highlight of your career?
Taking charge of Program area in the whole of Africa.
If somebody starts as a trainee / beginner within your line of work, what could they earn in salary?
U$2,500
What can this person expect to earn after 10 years of experience?
U$5,000 – Almost double
Who is your role model and why?
Dale Carnegie – if you appreciate internalise his views about life and work, you can be put any where in any field and do exploits.
What motivates you to work this hard?
A passion to make a difference. Few things are infinite, so while you are at it…do it like its your last time. Give it your all – Passion, commitment and resilience. More than just making choices to enjoy what I do – I seek for meaningful engagement.
What is your outlook within your industry over the next 5 years?
I think there is a wave and aspiration to make work more professional and corporate. I see the industry gravitating towards re-branding, business re-engineering and the like.
As you know, numerous African countries are being invested in due to their rich minerals. Which country within Africa do you think will be the next hot spot?
All i’m saying is, watch out for Uganda!
