What industry do you work in and what exactly are your skills?
I work within the Oil & Gas industry and am currently employed by an Exploration Company (Transocean). My skills are Roustabout, dealing with helicopters in terms of providing signals to crane operators, housekeeping on deck, transferring heavy and crucial loads from the ship to rig floors.
What inspired you to get into this sort of industry?
I was inspired to work within the Oil & Gas industry because I was aware of how beneficial this industry can be for me as it became a booming and highly important industry over the recent years.
What qualifications and experience did you have to gain In order to establish yourself and therefore become a professional within your industry?
I was required to undergo certain professional courses relevant to the Oil & Gas Industry which has certainly helped me to grow and develop regarding my skills and knowledge.
What is the most challenging aspect within your field of work?
Some of the challenges I experience are concerned with the complexity of the tools I use daily. An additional challenge is because I work in an environment where my colleagues come from different cultural backgrounds and religions, sometimes there are communication barriers which need to be figured out.
How do you manage and overcome these challenges?
By learning from them and understanding why such challenges occurred. I believe by doing so one can always learn what went wrong. Additionally I take with me valuable lessons from my senior colleagues.
What has been the highlight of your career?
All that I have achieved thus far; completing my professional courses and always trying to achieve employment in this difficult and competitive industry.
If somebody starts as a trainee / beginner within your line of work, what could they earn in salary?
I’m estimating a rough figure of one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150, 000.00) as a beginner/Trainee.
Who is your role model and why?
My role model is my Instructor (Adam Smith) who works in my field of work because he has significantly contributed to my immensely proportional growth relevant to the Oil & Gas field.
What motivates you to work this hard?
What motivates me to work hard is to focus and have a good future so that I can achieve my life goals and dreams.
What is your outlook within your industry over the next 5 years?
To be a dedicated and recognized staff member of a valuable and successful company within my field of expertise. Additionally I want to be so knowledgeable that I am able to also help the relevant company to further grow and develop.
As you know, numerous African countries are being invested in due to their rich minerals. Which country within Africa do you think will be the next hot spot and why?
Nigeria due to the country’s vast amount of natural resources such as crude oil, gas and so much more.
