Discover the working career of a Geologist within Mining from Rwanda
What industry do you work in and what exactly are your skills?
I worked in a mining company deprived as a training geologist, with expertise as a geologist of land and GIS officer.
What inspired you to get into this sort of industry?
Because this was better for my academic formation and this field of work has always been of interest.
What qualifications and experience did you have to gain in order to establish yourself and therefore become a professional within your industry?
Qualification: the diversity of exploration methods
Experiences: to know how to work in a team, the administrative management, management of the personal, working under pressure.
What is the most challenging aspect within your field of work?
I would have to say the pride, the contempt and the non-consideration that one receives within this line of expertise.
How do you manage and overcome these challenges?
Through diverse dialogue, never giving up and clear communication.
What has been the highlight of your career?
The day I was congratulated for having done excellent work and for leading the team well has definitely been a highlight in my career thus far. This was a day for good results.
If somebody starts as a trainee / beginner within your line of work, what could they earn in salary when they start off as?
I think that at the time that someone is starting the question of the wages is not a focal point because of the trainee’s lack of experience; but according to some information by our predecessors the remuneration for the beginners are dependent on an enterprise but the net income must be from 1200 USA at least for a contract of 3 months.
What can this person expect to earn (It doesn’t have to be an exact figure, a rough guide is sufficient) after 10 years of experience?
After 10 years of experience, all workers very experienced will be able to win an amount vary between 7000 to 10000 dollars because I suppose that if one has in a multinational society one is already born in an expatriate’s rank.
Who is your role model and why?
I will say, Mr Robilson exploration manager of Kilo Gold because of his dynamism, his strive to make and to know things. How he lives his life, his charming charisma and his approach to newcomers are all admirable traits.
What motivates you to work this hard?
To one day become a manager of an exploration operation in order to have the necessary due.
What is your outlook within your industry over the next 5 years?
It is to pass every superior level yearly, with the vision to be a senior geologist of an innovative operation.
As you know, numerous African countries are being invested in due to their rich minerals. Which country within Africa do you think will be the next hot spot and why?
In terms of geological and mineralogical I would have to say the RDC, since the country is reputed like geological scandal. It is a country open to exploration, and mineralogical diversity indications have been discovered from daily exploratory studies.
In terms of an economical point of view I will say Tanzania – the country has vast “amounts” of mineral and oil with a favoured business climate and a steady economy.
