Forbes Most promising African entrepreneurs 2018

Forbes has recently released its list of the 30 Most Promising African Entrepreneurs for 2018. These African entrepreneurs come from a variety of industries, such as real estate, financial services, manufacturing, media, tech, green tech, agriculture and fashion. Out of 650 nominations, only 30 of the best and brightest make the list. All nominations were researched and vetted by a panel of expert judges.

Here are a few of the great African entrepreneurs who have made the list, and who have made Africa better.

Nthabiseng Mosia, South African – Founder, ,Easy Solar

Easy Solar is a for-profit solar energy company that supplies, installs and services all varieties of solar equipment. This company aims to make clean energy affordable to off-grid communities in West Africa by distributing and financing affordable, high quality solar-powered devices on a rent-to-own basis enabled by Pay-As-You-Go technology. Easy Solar has provided electricity to over 40,000 people in the country so far.

Etop Ikpe, Nigerian – Founder, Cars45

Ikpe’s Cars45 is a vehicle e-commerce startup. The startup has managed to raise US$5 million in funding to grow its platform, which buys, sells, prices, and rates the condition of pre-owned cars. The platform has already conducted 10 000 inspections and auctions, and has seen rapid expansion over the past year.

Rahma Bajun, Tanzanian – Founder and Creative Director, MnM Clothing Line

MnM Clothing Line is an online Tanzanian retail store. The aim of the company is to “bring back the love of African prints to Tanzanians, Africans, and global at large by producing quality and classy clothes for both men, women and children, home decors, furniture and other miscellaneous.” Their products are sold all across East Africa.

Jean Bosco Nzeyimana, Rwandan – Founder, Habona Ltd

Habana Ltd is a Rwandan company that is dedicated to providing various products of cost-effective, renewable energy sources that are extremely beneficial in the face of Rwanda’s severe energy crisis. The company’s offerings include biogas for household cooking and lighting, biomass briquettes, and bio-fertilizer for farmers.

Habona also provides consultancy and maintenance services regarding integrated waste management and energy solutions, and continued research and development of environmentally friendly solutions. The company is in the process of diversifying into the installation and operation of clean power plants, ranging from waste to energy, such as solar, biomass, hydro, and wind, as well as climate-smart farming.
