Working in the Engineering and Construction Sector within Africa
Here is an interview I had with Kiran Raj:
What industry do you work in?
I work in the Construction Engineering and Industry.
What are your strengths?
My strengths are team work, sharing ideas and suggestions, good communication, good listener self-confidence, completing assigned tasks in given time, good relation with customers/suppliers/superiors/colleagues/subordinates/workers.
What inspired you to get into this sort of industry?
Work Atmosphere, vast scope and career will be developed from this fast growing industries. A industry where we can learn, improve skills, express talent, earn good income.
What is the most challenging aspect within your field of work?
Critical Path Analysis of the project, Cash flow and Control, Billing and Client Certification, Project Monitoring & Handling
How do you manage and overcome these challenges?
Critical Path Analyses: The project will be analysed at the beginning and at different levels with master and micro plans. The critical area to covered will be identified and concentrated with more manpower / machinaries as required. Cash flow and Control: Initial business plan will be made for the project and target have been fixed on each projects. Weekly/Monthly analysis will be made to control the cash flow of the project. Billing and Client Certification: Daily joint measurement will be made with client, duly signed by both contractor and client on measurement books. Monthly bill will be submitted to client for verification/checking and final bill will be certified from the client. Project Monitoring & Handling: The project will be monitored in each stage with utilising minimum resources and by achieving high quality of standards, maximum profit
What has been the highlight of your career?
Successful completion of Commercial Mall Project of RCC Structure, Pre Engineering Building Projects, Factory Projects using Conventional Steel Structures, Machine Foundations, Equipment foundations, Captive Power Plant, Effluent Water Tank Project, Warehouses, Roads & Gutters.
If somebody starts as a trainee / beginner within your line of work, what could they earn in salary?
Roughly USD 3000 per month.
What can this person expect to earn after 10 years of experience?
Roughly USD 20,100 per month.
What advice can you offer people who are in the same industry as you?
I would always address them to do best in their line of interest. Smart work and hard work is the biggest “MANTRA” to achieve all our success in life.

Sep 2011 till present, I am working in Lagos, Nigeria

Mauritius, Ghana, Congo, Angola, Mozambique : These countries are well are rich in petroleum and beautiful countries in Africa,concerned in unity and diversity.
