What industry do you work in?

I have been working as a Safety Health and Environmental Consultant for the past 6 year, leading and managing a number of areas. OHS was part of my repertoire for 18 years. I have been consulting for a number of Mines and Construction companies and have a qualified understanding of both. My experience with regards to the Oil and Gas industry is at intermediate level but I am in process of bringing it up to management level by means of  training.

What are your strengths?

  4. Marine HSE

What inspired you to get into this sort of industry?

Dedication and hard work inspire one to look at the complete picture. You can only achieve total compliancy and production in a safe environment.

What is the most challenging aspect within your field of work?

Getting he multitude of personalities in realising the importance  of  safety as a whole.

How do you manage and overcome these challenges?

Regular training and commitment. Only a small portion of people tend to disregard the warnings held to them during training.

What has been the highlight of your career?

My career is one highlight, no fatality or serious injury nor damage throughout my career.

If somebody starts as a trainee / beginner within your line of work, what could they earn in salary?

$ 3 500-00 to $ 5 000-00 per month

What can this person expect to earn after 10 years of experience?

$ 12 000-00 to $18 000-00  per month

What advice can you offer people who are in the same industry as you?

Work hard and believe in what you do. Make sure you are ready for the responsibility.

As you know, numerous African countries are being invested in due to their rich minerals. Which country within Africa do you think will be the next hot spot and why?

Angola, due to its mineral and oil deposits it tends to cover a large, diverse spectrum.
