Let’s find out where you can grow your career

Zambia

Zambia’s economy has been traditionally based mainly on the copper mining industry, however recent times show that the government is pursuing an economic diversification initiative to decrease the nation’s economic dependency on other nations.

One of the safer countries in Africa, Zambia is a subtropical nation covered largely in beautiful wilderness and countryside. Victoria Falls, which straddle the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, are a popular destination for visitors to Zambia.

There are international schools in Zambia, and they are pricey and mostly based in Lusaka, the capital. Most people live in Lusaka, a bustling, urbanized city with great food, chaotic streets, and a wide mix of cultures. The country has a well-developed private and public healthcare system, which includes institutions with specialised healthcare.

Go to our Africa Jobs portal to find the latest jobs in Zambia across a range of sectors. CA Global recruits highly skilled locals, Diaspora, and expats for mid- to senior-level jobs and has been operating as a recruitment company in Africa for 15 years.

The Group Crushing & Comminution Engineer will act as the technical authority responsible for designing, commissioning, and standardising crushing and milling systems across the group. The role will ensure processing plants are robust, resilient to ore variability and seasonal conditions, and aligned with long-term operational performance and capital efficiency objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, specification, and optimisation of crushing and milling circuits (primary–tertiary crushing and grinding) across multiple operations.
  • Develop scalable plant designs, ensuring robust, maintainable, and operationally practical systems.
  • Perform comminution calculations including Bond Work Index, circulating load, grind size optimisation, &  power draw.
  • Integrate crushing and milling circuits with downstream gold recovery processes, including gravity recovery systems.
  • Develop and implement ROM ore processing strategies to improve processing efficiency for low-grade ore.
  • Design processing plants capable of handling variable ore characteristics, clay-rich material, high moisture content, and tramp metal contamination while ensuring consistent throughput across seasonal conditions.
  • Standardise crushers, mills, and key equipment across sites to optimise maintenance, reduce spare parts complexity, and improve lifecycle cost efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership in capital project execution, including equipment specification, procurement support, contractor governance, and commissioning oversight.
  • Review contractor designs, approve fabrication drawings, and oversee installation QA/QC and plant commissioning.
  • Monitor plant performance across sites, identify bottlenecks, and drive continuous improvement in throughput, reliability, and mechanical availability.
  • Safeguard capital investments by ensuring infrastructure design aligns with long-term operational performance and cost efficiency objectives.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
  • Professional engineering registration advantageous.
  • 10–15 years’ post-graduate experience in heavy industrial processing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in crushing and comminution system design and optimisation.
  • Experience designing or working with ≥200 tph crushing circuits preferred.
  • Background in high-tonnage processing industries such as hard rock mining, cement, copper, or iron ore.
  • Proven experience in plant construction and commissioning, including at least two plant builds.
  • Operational plant experience (not purely consulting).
  • Experience managing contractor-led construction and installation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of comminution theory, equipment specification, liner optimisation, and wear management.
  • Ability to assess lifecycle cost implications and capital efficiency of engineering decisions.

Benefits and Contractual information:

  • Travel Requirements: Extensive site travel
  • FIFO Rotation / Residential
